Drop ANY camera on a concrete sidewalk and you've just done damage of some type to your camera, I don't care if it's an X10, a T3i/600D or a D4.

All things being equal, I'll take a metal or magnesium alloy camera. And if camera price is a measure of quality, we pay top dollar for cameras with metal subframe or metal bodies. The same goes for lenses.

The X10 (like the X100) is an extremely well thought out design with a robust build quality for it's class.

Drop an RX100 and an X10 I'm putting my money on the X10 to survive. My RX100 always seemed a bit delicate in comparison.

About three months ago my NEX-5 fell out of my backpack while I was running and hit the concrete some 3 meters away. The battery compartment was open, but the lens hood must have absorbed the better part of the impact. Guess what. I couldn't find any noticeable scratches. I put the battery back in, turned it on and could not believe that it was still working. Later on I took some test shots to check the lens but everything was just fine. No decentering, nothing. Heck, I guess I had to write something positive about a Sony product after all the bashing

Regarding my X10 it isn't a Leica but I'm quite happy with the overall build quality, apart from a few details ... mine has gathered some nasty dust particles in the viewfinder.

Great to hear. Nothing like that feeling you get between losing grip on an expensive thing and it hitting the floor or pavement; glad yours all survived.
