I don't make a habit of returning goods - but once or twice in my life I've bought camera gear that turned out to be not as I expected/not suitable for my needs and I was very glad i could return it free of charge.

I would never buy anything from a retailer who charged a restocking fee. In my experience the best retailers always allow free refunds or exchanges and it is a standard of service i have come to expect. It also makes good business sense. I have no doubt that retailers sell far more merchandise because people know they can return it if necessary whereas they might otherwise be more wary, than they ever have returned.

By the same token, I have no problem at all being sold goods as new which may have previously been returned by someone else, provided they are in pristine condition, unsoiled and unmarked. The first thing I am going to do with any product is to take it out of its box........there is no detriment to me merely because someone else had already taken it out and put it back again.

Pretty much, you can't have things both ways, either restocking fee's are common or goods that have been returned.

Personally I get the impression that alot of people who complain loudest about returns being resold are those who get into a ultra paranoid mindset were the slightest real or more often imagined fault with a product is enough to return it half a dozen times. This kind of excessive returning is really what spoils what should be a well worked out system giving buyers who find they really don't get along with something the chance to return it.
