Overall I'd endorse the "use a zoom" option. In this context the flexibility and speed conclusively trump the "IQ" issue. Image quality is much more about the quality of the image than the quality of the lens, particularly when the image may present itself only fleetingly.

As for changing lenses, if you have to, a Capture Clip or the Cotton Carrier equivalent will hold the camera, freeing up both hands for lens changing (although of course you really need three hands when changing lenses, except when sitting at your desk.) You can mount either unit on a backpack harness or a belt. A dump-bag on the belt or a sufficiently large and accessible pocket help too.

I'd go for the zoom.
