Now that the Oly with kit lens is selling for or close to the same price as compacts such as Canon G15, Olympus XZ-2, Fuji X20, Nikon P7700, Pentax MX-1, and others which are you looking at?
Joe, we have some news for you.
Olympus E-P1; Panny GF3, G3, etc. are all sellinng for $300.00 or less with a kit lens vs. $500 for Compacts.
There is no comparison. The sensors in those u 4/3 cameras are much better than the 1/1.7" sensors in all the compacts. The prime lenses you can put on u 4/3 cameras exceed the IQ of zoom lenses on all the $500.00 compacts.
Oh yes there is Ted and I'd take the X10 over any first gen m4/3's and kit lens combo. It has greater dynamic range at base ISO, a fast F2-F2.8 lens from 28-112mm, which is very sharp, a Built in ovf and other bells and whistles. It's a more versatile camera and the lens is also excellent for macro. The IQ is very comparable to these cameras and the lens is better than any m4/3's kit lens when you consider it's speed, range and performance. You can also add high sync speed flash to the mix.
So there reall isn't much here to consider except that some of the compacts (some, see GF-3/5) are more compact.

As a pocketable camera with great versatility and IQ the X10 trumps any of the m4/3's cameras you mentioned (with a kit lens). Of course with m4/3s you can swap the lens but for when you don't want to and you just want great IQ in your pocket I'll take the X10 every time.

$200.00 more.
That buys a lot of legacy lenses:

Compared to what? the X20 is just being released and the price has already dropped. I got mine cheaper than it would cost me for a G3. I'm not going to go there on legacy lenses, whilst they may work for you they clearly don't for many people for the obvious reasons.
