Pacs, I'd like to take the subject "NEX as a DSLR Replacement" in a new direction:

What would it take to transform a NEX into a super-camera capable of rendering images on par with a 5D or counterpart, I ask? Well obviously a super-lens. Looking at DxO lens ratings, even the best mirrorless lenses including the SEL 35 will only score a mid-pack 7. But what if we adapt the very best-scoring, such as the Sony 85 SAL with a score of 13?

Besides, we badly need an 85 for NEX, right?

I plan to do a work-up on this and present in a new thread, soon.

I'd been waiting to hear about 85mm (and at least an f/2) for E-mount, but I'm now thinking Sony Zeiss 85mm/1.4 instead with the idea being that NEX will be primary for primes thru 60mm, with zooms and larger primes from A-mount. The downside will be lack of OS in most of these (especially important with longer FLs), but I also have A55 to handle those needs.

Sony A55, Sony NEX-3, Sony F828

If you look at these three:  http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Publications/DxOMark-Reviews/Standard-micro-4-3-lens-reviews/Olympus-M.-Zuiko-Digital-ED-45mm-f-1.8

The 45mm Oly lens on the left has a DxOMark score of 17 which signifies a very good lens and probably close to the 35SEL 1.8. (Do you ever wonder why NEX lenses are never tested by DxOMark?)

The Canon EF 85 in the middle is rated at 30, close to the top of DxOMark's rating scale.

- The Sony Planar T* 85mm F1.4 ZA scores a remarkable DxOMark 31 on the Sony Alpha 900.

Mount that baby onto a NEX and you have just doubled it's quality. Or have you?
