They are both very good cameras with different advantages. If you want to use lenses without built-in focus motors and/or you like dedicated buttons for most settings, the D90 may be the better choice. If you want better performance at high iso's, more MP's, a newer processor, and a folding (articulated) LCD screen the D5200 may be the better choice.

I have a D90 and I like it a lot, but today I would go for the D5200 for the high iso performance and articulated LCD screen. But what I like has nothing to do with what you may like.
