It is if you want to shoot 75mm. If you want to shoot 7mm it is not.

Such a simple point, which says magnitudes about DxOMark and those who follow that particular religion. Besides the obvious you point out here, there are other schools of thought when it comes to what makes a good lens besides clarity and distortion. For example, how about all those fisheyes?

Photography, while certainly theoretically capable of capturing things as they really are, is still an art. There are artistic choices to be made. Field of view is one, but not the only choice. Perhaps a fuzzier image is better for a particular photograph? Perhaps distortion or vignetting is something you want? Full frame fans' obsession with narrow depth of field is also one such artistic choice.
