Had Trouble With Focus Point on D7000... Any Thoughts?

I understand what you're saying and I now see why I had some difficulty.  Thanks for the tips!

My brain cells always 'kick-in' after the fact.  I'd actually thought of that last tip myself after I had already driven away.  I went back the next day, and although the sky had become overcast, I set my camera to AF-C as you mentioned and focused my camera on the well pump using a central focusing point.  I then moved the camera to the left and the focal points 'followed' the well pump to the right side of my viewfinder.  It worked perfectly!

Definitely a new tool in the bag to use in the future... I only wish I would have thought of it when I needed to!
