You can set the AF/MF button to 'toggle'. Then press the button when you're finished shooting in AF. That switches the camera to manual focus mode so the camera stops trying to focus.

Then you just need to remember to press the button again to switch back to AF when you're ready.

This works with the N7 - not sure if the N6 has this facility, so apologies if that's not applicable to you
