What is the lowest shutter speed I should use for indoor shooting? I read that it should be 1/focal length. So does that mean the lowest I should go is 1/(24*1.5)?

Yes.

In aperture priority, the camera will likely look for 1/40s if Auto ISO allows it, otherwise lower. In shutter priority, you could go 1/30 (braced more carefully) or 1/40s.

I face this challenge with my A-mount 35mm/1.8 on NEX. The camera prefers 1/60s for that focal length (1/53s rounded to next third stop).
