I use the 60mm macro in the studio where I find it focuses without problem despite the only light being from the 60 watt modelling lights in the flash-heads. Haven't missed focus once yet so, no I don't recognise point 1 (I use single point SAF+M for this as I like to move fairly quickly about the studio and also to get my model(s) moving as well, so MF isn't a preferred option for me. I reckon I nail the focus on the eye in more than 95% of my shots)
Fly-by wire will never feel as nice to me as a straight mechanical coupling but if I'm manual focusing for my real macro work I set it to close to optimal then use the "rock to focus" method to refine the final selection of focus point. So, point 2 may have some basis on the feel of the lens to the operator, particularly if they have just come from using a DSLR but no, it doesn't affect my close macro work in any way
Point 3 - haven't seen it up to ISO 1600
