The EOS-M is a nice little camera, but that old sensor in it is no match for the IQ you can get from the NEX7 sensor

...is simply not correct - the sensor of EOS-M is new = introduced by Canon in mid-2012 into EOS 650d (with built-in HDAF sensels) - these two cameras share exactly the same sensor architecture! Which means the sensor in EOS-M is actually newer than that of N7

I'll admit, I did, incorrectly, state that that all the Canon 18mp sensors were the same. I happily concede I misspoke... My point was, and thank you for bringing this up, Canon still hasn't improved on that type of sensor. 6 SLRs/ILCs using an 18mp sensor and there have been zero gains in IQ. Looking at DXO, my old T2i did better than the newer EOS M. And the EOS M is not anywhere near as good as my NEX 7 - which has an "older" sensor with a lot more pixels crammed on to it.

and I do concur with you on respective merits and demerits of 650d or Eos-M vs. N7 + 7d(which by the way is my complementary pair, or rather the addition of the 300+ grams of N7 to my bag already carrying 7d + lenses... makes very small addition weight wise, but its ability to mount exactly the same lenses through the Conurus smart adapter makes tons of sense to me as IQ on both is leagues above Eos-M), esp. as 7d offers me so very fine AF'in speed and accuracy (and to tell the truth this is the sole thing which I miss dearly on N7, besides its rather lacking UI and controls).

IMO, the best thing about your 7D is it's metering system.   A while back I spent part of a day doing side by side shooting between my T2i and the 7D, and I found that its evaluative metering functions completely different than my T2i, that is to say the 7D meters CORRECTLY.  What could take me 2 or 3 shots with having to adjust Exposure Compensation by as much as +/- 1EV, the 7D would get right on the first shot.   Actually I like a lot of things about the 7D, but its metering system is my favourite.

I do, on occasion, miss the fast low-light AF of my T2i (which is pretty close to a 7D - except in AF tracking), but I like my metering system, among other things, on my NEX 7 now.
