Can you use an intervalometer on the XE1?

The manual, on page 38, says that you can plug a remote release into the microphone/remote release connector.  Typically, they don't seem to provide any infoemaytion on how the release should be wired.  The small picture in the manual just shows a typical miniplug going into the connector.  Amazon sells an internalometer with what appears to be a compatible plug.  It's made by fotodiox and only costs $35.  I guess it would take a little research or experimentation to figure out if this would work, but there seems to be no reason that a properly wired intervalometer would not work with the  X-E1.
