a proposal to B&H (and others)

I hate to be, in effect, taken advantage of by those that return items just because they couldn't be bothered to do a proper research and buy "on approval".

My preference would also be a hefty "restocking fee" (by whatever name, of at least 10%, unless of course the item is defective, as deemed by the manufacturer!). Such items should be  fully checked and re-packaged, and sold only as "previously owned", clearly marked as such and discounted by nearly the same amount.

Since, unfortunately, this might be a difficult policy change for one US mail-order retailer on its own, I'd suggest  to B&H (and similar, high reputation on-line retailers) to offer a voucher of 2-5% of the current transaction on the next purchase if, at the time of order, I agree to something to the effect that "...I waive my right to return the merchandise, unless defective or delivered in a previously opened box".
