I believe the autofocus performance of the 1D X is outstanding. From what I've read, the consensus seems to be that it's the best autofocus system Canon has ever produced.

Almost all of what I've read concerns the autofocus performance of the 1D X in daylight. I haven't seen much written about the 1D X autofocus performance in very low light.

If you want to know for sure how the 1D X will perform for your specific application, you could rent one for a few days. Use it to photograph the subjects of most interest to you, under the actual lighting conditions you typically encounter, and see how it performs.
