How we in the UK deal with armed robbers

Let me initially state that my heart goes out to this would be robber who died. we don't know the whole story yet but this man died whilst trying to carry out a robbery with a gun (real or no we don't know yet). He died before the police arrived, it seems as a result of being attacked by members of the public.

The American RW gun lobby, so strong on this forum, would have loved to have taken him out. As it was he did die and maybe we will never know his story.
