Yes indeed, a lousy design. Mine came off repeatedly from about day 1, usually whenever I removed the camera from my backpack. After a few weeks I eventually failed to spot where it had fallen - on a shingle beach. Trying to get a replacement from my suppliers (Park Cameras) was met by the usual lack of response where there's no big ticket item involved. By contrast Olympus UK got a replacement to me within 24 hours; I ordered on Friday afternoon and the package containing the deeper eyecup arrived on Saturday morning. Astonishingly quick and what's more, FOC. It's now retained by black electrical tape.
The results from this camera make it possible to forgive many design faults. Ignoring the labrynthine menu system, the handling issues caused by the tiny set of buttons combined with the firmware design are a PIA. We're all busy providing development testing for Olympus at our own expense. Soon we'll be able to replace the camera with version 2 and begin testing again once more. It will almost certainly also have a set of conspicuous design faults. Could there be a clue here?
