Were you using AF-C mode? And was the aperture set above F/6.3? If so, that's the contrast-detect AF hunting back and forth continuously and (I think) the image correction algorithm not quite keeping up with the constant re-focusing.

Thanks for the input Bart. Somehow I'm relieved to hear other people experience this.
I've never used AF-C, and in my poorly lit house I'm never using aperture smaller than 6.3.
