Sorry but I am correct. Maybe I am explaining it wrong.

The SX50 has a 4.3-215mm lens. You multiply that x 5.58 to get the 35mm Equivalent which is what they call the 24-1200mm range.

Example at full zoom the actual mm of the lens is 215mm (you see this in the exif of any photo here on DPR from that camera taken at full optical zoom). If you multiply 215 x 5.58 (actually 5.581395348837209) you get 1200mm which is the conversion.
