I am a newbie, but have perused the forum(s) and the challenges for a while. Learned a lot and still learning. So, thanks to all who post and share their experience/wisdom.

My question is this: if the NEX system is as sucessful as it appears (I own and use primarily an NEX 6), why are'nt there more (and more successful) posts using NEX cameras to the DPR challenges.

I take this as an informal indication that by and large NEX users are casual photographers (like myself) rather than more serious photographers who post to the Challenges, or perhaps the Seirous photographers who use NEX bodies have other cameras as their go to "tools" of choice. A few of points of conjecture in this regard:

1) NEX owners use them as second bodies, for convinience since their primary body is an SLR.

2) The DPR challenges are not an indication of serious photographers posts.

3) NEX owners/users care not to post in the DPR challenges.

Any thoughts?

At the office here another colleague just picked up a Nex-5N.

That makes two Nex cameras out of a pool of maybe 100+ active photographers, almost all Canon and Nikon users.

Yes, MILC cameras are not considered seriously by those who invest(ed) in DSLR equipment, but at last they seem to be becoming aware of the high IQ hidden in the Nex cameras.

As to challenges, statistics prevail. Given a 10:1 ratio of DSLR to Nex, even worse if you include other MILC cameras, I would not expect to see Nex there too frequently.

And like Justin remarks, the challenges are fun if you are learning, but why bother if you have developed your own style? Maybe if you have an interesting shot?

Another thing that applies to myself - the Nex camera is a hobby, of sorts. There are weeks that pass when I don't even pick up the camera, as work and life gets busy. I figure that those with large DSLR investments pick up their cameras a lot more than I, as an amateur, do, and I figure that this applies to Nex users more in general.

(Yes, the counter argument is that you have the camera with you more often if you want, but that applies often to social pics, not contest pics).
