D7000 beep AGAIN AGAIN

This is not if you like it or why I must be a beginner if I like it!
D7000 Beep query.  I've searched and this has been done to death but ...  
A Mode, AF-S, d1 Vol = H Pitch = L, Nikon 18-55 kit lens or Nikon 18-105 - View finder green light Ok but no beep.  Now got to the stage where I'm not sure if it ever did. I've tried a 2 green button reset.
No beep when I change d1 values.
Should it beep on self timer?
If it used to beep, is there any history of it failing with time?
