EOS-M 2 seconds shot-to-shot, what am I doing wrong?

Took delivery of my EOS-M yesterday. I'd read literally everything on the web about the camera, and watched all the videos on youtube. Everyone says focus is slow. Not a big deal for me.
However, after using the camera for a few minutes I noticed that the minimum shot-to-shot time is really, really long (2 seconds or so). To clarify : in one-shot drive mode, take a picture. Then try to take a second one. The quickest I can do that is about 2 seconds. The screen goes blank, and only when it displays the viewfinder image can you take another shot. Also to clarify: I have set the "review time" to "off"; image is set to raw (although I've tried med jpeg too just in case there's some raw-writing delay issue); SD card is sandisk "extreme" 45MBytes/s.
So....a) does everyone see this, or am I doing something wrong and b) why is this not mentioned in any review ? Don't folks want to take images reasonably quickly ? I'm thinking of for example child candid portraits where expressions change quickly. For comparison, my LX-3 is much faster (1/2 second or so), and the last camera I owned with a shot-to-shot time this long was the G1 14 years ago.
Thanks for any pointers. I've also read the manual, which doesn't mention shot-to-shot delay at all.
