Where the f/4's fall down is with a Canon 1.4x extender.

My copy of the 300mm f4 was a little soft wide open. Believe it or not, it was great at f4.5. I used it with a teleconverter in bright sunlight (stopped down) and it worked decently. Unfortunately bright sunlight is not something you can count on where I live.
