Just me here, but I wouldn't use sharpness as a deciding factor between these lenses.  The question is do I need 201-300mm of the 70-300L more than I need the non variable aperture with 2/3rd of a stop at 200mm and lighter weight of the 70-200/4 IS.

I personally went with the 70-200/4 ISĀ for the faster aperture and if I could have justified the cost of the II, I probably would have wnet with that instead for even more aperture.
