P7700 and a Birthday party

I got a P7700 for Xmas and I'm very happy so far. No problem shooting outdoor, but indoor can be tricky. Sunday is my daughter 11yo birthday party, indoor, decently lighted environment, few small windows. Any of of you had test this camera in similar situation?

What is your recommended setup for my P7700?. I also got a small Sunpack external flash (SB-400 equivalent). Should I use it? Should I shoot in burst mode? Should I shoot only in Aperture Priority @ ISO 400? Thanks for your help. If I screw up, I'll be a dead man!
