Not a good idea.

First of all, you should never change a lens with the camera turned on.

I've been changing lenses (manual and emount) with the NEX-5 turned on every other day for the past two years, with no problems. Maybe the later models are more sensitive, so proceed with caution!

Does anyone else do this with a newer model?

I was the previous NEX-6 owner who's camera got "Bricked" from Hot swapping lenses (See below). It had less than 150 shutter releases and was 29 days old. (Returned for refund)

I also used to swap lenses on my old NEX-5N powered on without any problems, and this was partly the reason i became accustomed to doing so. With the newer models (6, 5R) it seems that the PDAF on the sensor is whats causing the sensitivity issues. Do yourself a favor and read the manual otherwise Hotswap at your own risk.
