You can take this for what it is worth (call me a troll, I don't care), I will not name the shop or the clerk because he spoke to me in confidence ... but it is one of the few remaining viable old line camera shops in metro Boston.

I asked if this fellow had read the Hogan article (yes), and did it seem plausible? He basically said Nikon are "awful", that they have to send repairs back often, 2 and 3 times, that Canon are much much better, although Canon turnaround is only marginally faster, that Nikon cameras and lenses are defective at a far higher rate than Canon (about 5 to 1) and that yes, the 600s have been returned for dust problems, the 7000 was a dog at launch, and 800s have been returned for under-performing AF and that the issue is not yet resolved. He also said Nikon USA leans on this shop to buy inventory in quantities that put the shop at risk, and that Canon never lean on them in the same way. He called Nikon "odd" and "strange".

Because there has been so much chatter about dust and oil, even though my 600 seems reasonably clean, I have been revamping my sensor clean method and the shop sold me at a steep discount 4 RE-AIR cans; a discontinued product. Pretty cool idea. You don't need the pump, you can use a bicycle pump to refill.
