That is incorrect. To do HDR properly one needs multiple exposures.

If you know how to use RAW, you can easily underexpose and save it as JPEG then overexpose then save it as JPEG. You can also lift the shadows and pull the highlights for another JPEG. Combine those files and you now have an HDR. You can even create an HDR out of single JPEG file.

Joms if you speak like this it simply means that you don't know anything about HDR. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and it is meant to extend the (limitate) sensor dynamic range. If you use only one shot you don't have any extended range at your disposition, you're just faking the real HDR (and the difference il really big)
