85 1.8 is great, i wouldn't use it for sport though, it's not long enough and there's no zoom...
I would just get the 70-200 2.8 but not from canon, get a sigma or tamron, i saw those going on sale used for 400-500, if the OP needs to get sharper picture, stop it down to f/4 I'm sure at f/4 those things are probably as good as the 70-200 f/4 L...
