The fame that comes with breaking new ground

The EM5 broke a lot of new ground when it came out.

The first M43 camera, possibly the first micro/mirrorless camera that had advanced amateur features: all metal body, weathersealing, battery grip. It signified that mirrorless cameras weren't just overgrown P&S's any more.

That may not be fact, there were several very good M43 bodies before the EM5, but it is certainly the perception in the enthusiast world. And when it comes to marketing and buzz, perception counts for a lot.

The groundbreaking new IBIS, the wicked sharp new primes, helped out, but it was the EM5 that showed that small and cool can match bulky and traditional.

Whatever happens next, the EM5 will be remembered as the camera that pointed the way - mirrorless can be a replacement for a dslr without compromise.
