I say forget the targets altogether and shoot several real world scenes and see what you think.  Many mewcomers make them selves crazy worrying about sharpness.  The truth is that most dslr cameras have strong aa flters laid over the sensor to reduce moire patterning and the aa flter has a bluring effecton the image.  My view is that all dslr pictures need some amount of post processing to look their best.  Take your real world pictures and apply a medium level of sharpening, then judge how the camera system is working for you.

Too much time with the targets will put you in the looney bin.
