Why is the EM5 so much more popular than the GH3?

I think there are two reasons, well three really; two major ones and a minor(ish) one.

First reason, in my humble opinion, is that most of what Oly produced up until the EM-5 OM-D was quite frankly sh!t. Yeah, one or two of the bodies looked nice but that's all they did, LOOK nice and needing a zillion firmware updates to get even half-way decent performance out of them.

So when Oly produced this thing, it was like WOW! WTF!! It was so damn good that it was a shock compared to the mediocre stuff Oly had produced hitherto. And not only that, quite frankly it even surpassed the GH2 which was a mighty fine camera, and in my view surpassed it by a significant margin. Plus not many people ever believed a microFT cam could be so damn good.

Second, well, the obvious  one of Oly getting their product out of the gates first and pretty much having the entire year of 2012 to get their cam reviewed, publicised and in the hands of buyers etc. The Panny cam has only been widely available since December, and as good as it is, and in many ways better, the wow factor has already been exhausted by Oly (Oly set the benchmark and now if any cam is as good, it's like "yeah, so what")

The third reason I guess, is that in combination with the two points above the Oly cam is just so damn gorgeous.

Whether Panny or Panny users like it or not, it will always be the Oly EM-5 OM-D that will go down in history as the camera that said "mFT has come of age".
