While your approach may be conservative and ultimately a time saver, let's not give manufacturers a "pass" for product quality problems.

If we were taliking about a defective car which caused drivers, passengers, and bystanders to lose their lives, would everyone be so forgiving?

Alpha is alpha, beta is beta, and a launched product should have all known significant bugs worked out. If not, the selling company is taking advantage of it's customers.

Alpha and beta testers agree to suffer for a vairety of reasons. Which D800 purchasers agreed to suffer a "beta" product? None!

This is a major manufacturer and they should not get a "pass" becuase enough time hasn't already gone by (wether that be one, six, or 12 months).

Sadly, I do believe you are right implying many manufacturers and software companies inflict beta product on their customers.

Still, we should not take that as acceptable behavior and buyers and the community should push back to force such manufacturers to clean up their act!
