So if I open up to wider apertures the edges will get sharper in relation to the centre? ( and I've already said I've tested this) - please explain what new optical laws come into play with m4/3? That don't apply to my Canon 5DII and P45 MF back ( assuming that an aperture is not knocking on the door of refraction limiting which I know F8 on m4/3 format is not.

It is not a question of opening up the lens. It is a question of you stopping it down too much.

Like everyone else has said. Stop it down to F4.0 and try it. Post some pictures to show us the lack of sharpness you are experiencing at F4.0. If that truly is the case then yes you have a defective lens because everyone elses lens works best at F4.0 and is actually still very good at F2.8.
