Re: How does the Sony DH1758 1.7x teleextender attach to the Sony nex 7

Another option if you're OK with manual focus, is a legacy prime with adapter.  The SEL55210 is a great lens for what it is (just recently sold my excellent example), and the DH1758 adapter is top notch from all accounts and gives you an effective 535mm equivalent focal length, but you are still shooting at a maximum aperture of 6.3 at full zoom. This can limit your shutter speed, especially when shooting moving subjects during the "magic" hour.

The outstanding Canon nFD 200mm f/2.8 can be had for $100-$150 on the bay.  Alternatively, you can score the MUCH more compact and excellent Minolta MD 135mm f/2.8 for $50-$80.  Steer clear of the Minolta 135mm "PF" and "Celtic" versions, they have less advanced coatings and/or optics, and are not in the same class of lens as the later MD (non-Celtic) versions.  The newer ones weigh about 200g less, are also shorter in length.  The version that says "MD" on the ring and says "Japan", not "Made in Japan", is the newest/most desirable.  Paired with an NEX adapter, it is about the same length as the SEL55210 when fully retracted at the short end and weighs the same.
