Why not a 21.6mm x 21.6mm sensor?

And, with a diagonal of 30.5mm,  it will far exceed the image circle of M43 lenses. The idea of a camera which does not have to be tipped over for Portrait/landscape switch is very attractive. The existing sensor with a long side of 17.3 mm almost fills the available space in the inner mount. You could go for a round sensor with a diameter of a maximum of about 18mm or a square-with -the corners-chopped-off giving an octagon within which 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 or 1:1 could be framed electronically in either landscape or portrait format.
