My reasons for choosing the G15 were much the same. But I didn't really consider the RX100 an option -- even though my computer is not "aged"

I prefer an eye level viewfinder, and the G15 has one -- and one which I find very useful. I also like the high degree of control, and have long preferred Canon's jpeg colors.
