Best way to remove background & keep every hair

Patsy, I appreciate the effort.  Even using your methods....its just not working.  Im getting a SEVERE "halo" around his head.  And his left should is getting "eaten" into.  ????

Allen, youre FAR better than I am, because I cant get it anywhere that good in PSP11 and Topaz.

Suddie, thank you SO MUCH for the instructions, Ill give it a try.  In terms of lighting, this is how he liked it (with the shadows).  We tried a few different ones with reflectors, hair lights, etc., and this was the one he picked.
