D800 Single-point AF vs. Normal AF

If you are using the AFC, AF-ON technique as described here it will lock focus if after you achieve focus you release the AF-ON button, recompose if desired, then release the shutter. Only if you keep the AF-ON button depressed will the AFC continue to adjust focus. This is why it is so convenient to decouple focus from the shutter release.
