Hi Bruno,
Glad to see that you are making friends!
For better lighting, have you thought about using a large sheet of aluminium foil with a hole cut in it for your lens - to bounce some light back at your feathered subjects. The less shiny side might work better in giving a more diffuse light, and the birdies might not be spooked so much by their own reflections (something I have trouble with myself.....)
