Memory Card help

The best recommendations that I've seen are to format the cards in camera. Any optimizations the camera can use it oughta apply then.

I'm no expert on file systems, but I can't imagine what optimizations they could apply other than an allocation size or maybe FAT version? but even these things should be easy enough to change formatting on another system.

And you probably could defrag a card on another system, if you really wanted to.

But, I'm pretty sure formatting in the camera averages out as the best, fastest, cheapest solution for most of us.
