one big advantage of a micro 4/3s system is the photographers ability to grab shots easily and flexibility.  I mentioned on another post that on a birding trip with my G5 and 100-300 my keeper rate was far in excess of my pal with his Sony 70-400 and A700. Not because his kit isn't good, it undoubtably is but he struggled without a tripod and with a tripod he struggles to react to the opportunities.

I believe micro 4/3is is already better for birding than a cheap DSLR, at least that's what my experience with both tell me.. In national geographic terms it has some way to go to catch up with a good DSLR and a lens that gets the best out of that camera but we're getting there
