The second 'snap' pancake was on the roadmap for a long time and was always assumed to be 20mm, because of pancake design limitations.

Sony still manufacturers, and sells, the 16mm lens. The 16mm is soft at f/2.8, whereas the 20mm likely will not be. But then again, most 16mm (24mm FF) don't even go to f/2.8, and also show soft edges.

The camera software automatically selects widest aperture, then longer shutter, then higher ISO. As a photographer you can avoid widest aperture and longest shutter often, getting more crisp images.

Quality control seems to be another factor, but such a simple lens design should have few exceptions, not many, as many make us believe.

Your unsubstantiated topic title tells me more about you than about Sony.

Also, have you followed any of the post around here regarding the 16mm lens, even on the Nex-7?
