Very well said and totally accurate.
Opinion is often not actually accurate though it may be perceived as such.
The whole size, weight, cost, etc, arguments are total and complete BS
Not when considered in combination. Sales figures indicate the road Nikon has taken works well for them, and fuels innovation for the consumer.
. There have been many small, light, and inexpensive cameras made with the in camera focus motor included by various manufacturers. The removal of the focus motor was simply a decision by Nikon to promote and enhance the sale of their newer AFS lenses, and nothing more.
Exactly, and that combination seems to be working well. Sales seem up, not down. Good move in this economy.
Sure there are advantages to the AFS lenses such as quieter operation which is better for video. However, as you correctly point out, having an in body focus motor does absolutely nothing to diminish the use of AFS lenses. Instead, having an in body focus motor simply makes the camera a more versatile tool that is able to auto focus with many more lenses.
... And at higher cost and weight. The vast majority of entry level buyers never use older lens and never would given the chance. For the very small group that does, the D7000/D90 seems a better option for them and Nikon vs adding in body motors to the entry level line. There is simply not enough demand to justify otherwise from a businesses standpoint. Some choices just make better sense when company health is considered. Nikon market share, after all, is on the rise. They seem to have made the right call.

My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value (except to me and Lacie of course)
