they have obsoleted all of the older style autofocus lenses on these cameras. They have greatly reduced the value of millions of legacy lenses

Total BS.

It's not BS. They have removed a required component from the entry level cameras

Nothing required at all. Sales numbers confirm. Nikon DSLR no-motor cameras out sale all their other DSLRs by a wide margin.

....most of the new cameras sold....all of the cameras sold at budget prices. That in turn will quickly reduce the available resale market for all of these AF and AFD lenses. Prices drop. As a photographer who follows the used market with interest I have noticed this over the last few years and it will continue to get worse. Right now, it is to my advantage as I can pick up many of these lenses below what they should sell for. But regardless of your astute observation, the end result is one where Nikon steals value from the existing customer base in order to add value to their own bottom line. My suggestions are .....

....Those suggestions are subjective opinion only. The newer AFS lenses simply out perform their older counterparts in almost every case. In most cases, the only advantage of using the older no-motor lens is to forgo a little optical performance in favor of saving a few dollars. Nostalgia also might play a part.... For the most part

My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value (except to me and Lacie of course)
