The so called `Secret handshake` lens is the stupid name given by some to the Minolta 28-135mm which was developed in collaboration with Leica in the early 80`s. Arguably is is one of the finest lens that Minolta ever made.

It has a good FL range that is particularly useful on FF & which still works quite well on half frame APS C cameras. Its main faults are a long minimum focussing distance although it does have a built-in macro adjustment & a tendancy to be prone to flare when shooting into the sun. Any CA can be easily fixed in PP these days especially in LR 4. There is a lens profile available on the Web which can be installed with the free Adobe lens profile downloader.

It works well on the NEX 7 although it is on the heavy side & does not have ILIS. A smaller , lighter APS C version would be an instant hit provided the optics were built to a high standard. The Sony 18-200mm comes close but a shorter version should be more compact & optically better. The 28-135mm was an expensive lens when new but I bought an unused copy a few yars ago
