You have taken one part out of context and ignored the rest

Yes it would have been better if he had beat them instead of shot them because in all probability it would have stopped before death

The point the poster was making is that if you have a very bad temper you can react with deadly consequences with a gun.  You are far more likely to stop if you have to beat somebody before it results in their death

There's more violent crime in the UK and fewer violent deaths
