How did you process? Aligning is clear, but exactly how did you merge?

I used this, an advantage of which from my point of view is that it works as plug-in to LR. It does cost something but very little (a donation of minimally 2 GBP). It does take some time. I didn't clock it but we are talking minutes rather than seconds on my brand new and quite fast PC. It's quite conceivable that there are better options. If anyone has ideas about this, please speak out.

I'm not familiar enough with Enfuse to understand what it's doing. Is it averaging (mean or median) pixels, which is what Photoshop does?

I can't say I am familiar with it either. I downloaded it only yesterday, after coming back from shooting, and only learnt much enough about to do exactly what I wanted to do. It appears to be capable of merging in several different ways but the way I used it in this case, it merely aligned and then averaged.

Enfuse (4.0, as used) utilizes a Gaussian amplitude weighting function described in this section:

http://panorama.dyndns.org/EandE-documentation/enfuse.html#Weighting-Functions

... accessed from the web-page:

http://panorama.dyndns.org/EandE-documentation/

Thus, assuming equal Exposure levels in each image combined, it is a simple arithmetic averaging.

If not, would you mind posting the underlying images somewhere or otherwise sending them to me? I'd like to try blending them with photoshop's mean and median blending modes to see if the result is meaningfully different from what you're getting with Enfuse.
