If you're after a system that reliably focuses on small flying birds, go with a dslr.

That's a bit misleading.

PDAF works better using continuous AF and when the subject is changing its distance relative to the camera (basically, predictive AF).

Otherwise, CDAF is far more accurate, even after PDAF front- and back-focusing issues are solved.
