I tried to use IDC with linux 2 years ago, as far I remember, there were stability problems.

I found that there are no much IQ benefits when converting unaltered RAWs - result will be almost the same (marginally better) as in camera jpg. IDC makes sense if you edit raws, but if you are going just to convert 1000 raw files, may be it's better to shot raw+jpg, and then edit and export few raws.

In comparison, Adobe Lightroom 4 generates significantly more details and cleaner output at higher ISOs.  Unfortunately there is no Lightroom for linux.
